Sydney Hirai was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. She studied at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, where she focused on performance and choreography, performing works by choreographers including Andrea Miller and Kyle Abraham. During her studies, she also spent a semester abroad in Berlin. After earning her BFA in 2024, she moved to Turin, Italy, to train at NOD – Nuova Officina della Danza under the direction of Tom Weinberger, where she collaborated with choreographers including Ethan Colangelo, Ella Rothschild, Roy Assaf, Mario Bermudez, and Jiří Pokorný.
Joined the Batsheva Ensemble in 2026.
