'Petrushka' by Sharon Eyal for the Batsheva Ensemble will open the 75th season of the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra and Batsheva Dance Company's 2010/2011 performance season, under the baton of Maestro Zubin Mehta (celebrating 50 years with the Orchestra).
Petrushka is a ballet with music by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. Petrushka is a story of a Russian traditional puppet, Petrushka, who is made of straw and with a bag of sawdust as his body, but who comes to life and develops emotions.
'Petrushka' will be performed by Batsheva Ensemble's 17 dancers: Danielle Ben-Hamo, Gon Biran, Omri Drumlevich, Bret W. Easterling, Danielle Gal, Regev Lotem, Nitsan Margaliot, Nitzan Ressler, Anne Rigney, Gil Schachar, Maayan Sheinfeld, Or Schraiber, Marija Slavec, Stav Struz, Maya Tamir and Eduard Turull.
